NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: ‘The View’ panel on Wednesday discussed a part of Britney Spears’ memoir, where she claimed she had an abortion while dating ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake.
As the co-hosts weighed in on the matter, with each sharing their own opinion from their own experiences, Whoopi Goldberg spoke only twice during the segment, at the start when she introduced the segment, and at the very end.
Towards the end of the segment on Spears, her memoir, and abortion, Goldberg made a “weird analogy” which left Joy Behar, and the viewers confused, where the EGOT winner spoke about “men taking care of themselves.”
Whoopi Goldberg makes bizarre comments on 'The View'
Moderator and host of ‘The View’ Whoopi Goldberg introduced the topic to the panel, “One of the claims making a turn in Britney Spears' memoir that people are talking about is that she felt pressured into having an abortion by her boyfriend at the time, Justin Timberlake.”
She continued, “He hasn't commented on it but started a conversation on how much say should a man have in a woman's choice. So I open it up to you all.”
Turn by turn, the co-hosts weighed in on the matter, as the focus remained on the woman’s choice, and the role of men, when it comes to abortion.
Sunny Hostin, Joy Behar, Sara Haines, and Alyssa Farah Griffin also chimed in as they discussed the topic, while Goldberg remained silent, and occasionally looked around the set.
Towards the end of the segment, Golberg finally spoke up, “I have a suggestion,” she said, before she continued, “You know if they put as much onus on how men treat their own bodies because the swimmers, we carry eggs, they carry the swimmer.”
Goldberg added, “So I kind of feel like they need to put the same onus on abortion for men as they do for women, and let's see how deep it's going to be because if you tell a man, 'No, you can't take care of yourself, I wonder how many of them are going to listen. Do you know what I'm talking about?”
It was at this point, that Joy Behar intervened, “But we don’t tell them what to do with their prostate.”
Goldberg responded, “You're missing the point,” after Behar asked her what the point was, Goldberg said, “The point is…if men cannot take care of themselves in that way that men do…”
Behar said, “You mean wear a condom?”
The other co-hosts quickly responded with multiple “No’s” It was at this point, that the segment ended abruptly.
Internet questions Whoopi Goldberg’s ‘weird analogy’
Viewers were quick to respond to Whoop Goldberg’s last statement in the segment as one person wrote, “Joy not getting Whoopi’s point.”
A viewer said, “Honestly, neither do I. Can they not say masturbation on daytime TV? Even so, what does that have to do with this topic?”
One user wrote, “I had no idea what Whoopi was talking about. I'm getting an inkling from reading the comments, but I still don't see how men's situation relates to women's. Maybe I'm still not getting it...”
“I have no idea what Whoopi was talking about,” wrote one user, and another commented, “I had no idea what Whoopi was trying to say at the end there.”
Internet wasn’t too impressed with Goldberg by the end of the segment as one said, “Whoopi making it up as she goes along,” and another wrote, “Whoopi with the weird analogy again? It must be Wednesday ...”
