Volodymyr Zelensky visited a hospital in Dnipro on Thursday 27 July, to present state awards to medical workers. The president of Ukraine thanked the staff on a trip that coincided with Medical Worker’s Day. “On your frontline, you are the same heroes as the military. Thank you for saving our boys and girls. Thank you for giving all your time and energy to restore the health of our warriors,” the video, shared on Mr Zelensky’s Facebook page, was captioned. “We highly respect you and are proud that we have such doctors. I wish you and all Ukrainians victory, good health to you and your families.”

Fire on ship carrying 3,000 cars burns out of control and kills crew member
A fire on board a freight ship carrying nearly 3,000 cars was burning out of control in the North Sea on Wednesday 26 July, the Dutch coast guard said. One crew member died with several others injured, and officials are working to save the vessel from sinking close to an important habitat for migratory birds off the coast of Holland. Boats and helicopters were used to get the 23 crew members off the ship after they tried unsuccessfully to put out the blaze, the coast guard said in a statement.

Up to 10,000 Britons are estimated to be on the fire-ravaged Greek island, with repatriation flights to rescue holidaymakers landing back in the UK. Dominic Doggett explained how he “stayed on the office floor” of a hotel, before driving through the night to find other accommodation. “It was a very unique situation, but luckily we had a hire car there so we were able to drive away,” he explained.
