LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Katharine Hope McPhee has canceled her upcoming shows in Asia due to a "shocking family tragedy". The 39-year-old runner-up on the fifth season of 'American Idol' announced on her Instagram that she would miss the final two shows of the David Foster & Friends Asia Tour 2023.
Katharine has been performing as a special guest alongside her husband David Foster on the tour. “It is with a heavy heart that I announce that I have to miss our final two shows of our Asia run,” she wrote in a note addressed to Jakarta fans, Entertainment Tonight reports.
Why did Katharine Hope McPhee cancel her shows in Asia?
“David and I have had a horrible tragedy in our family and at least one of us needs to get back home to our family,” the 'Smash' alum continued, even though she did not detail about have has exactly happened. She concluded the statement by saying, “Please know how sorry I am and how much I wish to return someday and perform for you all.”
'I am thinking of you guys'
Many of the singer's friends shared well wishes, including 'Masked Singer' judge Nicole Scherzinger. She wrote, “Sending my love and prayers for your family 🙏🏽❤️.” Linda Thompson, who was previously married to Foster, also commented, “Sending you and David love & hoping that everything is OK🙏🏻💜.” Amanda Kloots also wrote, “Sending you loads of love. I’m thinking of you guys.”
Foster will continue performing in the final two concerts
However, according to the details provided on the website as of Friday morning, August 11, Foster will continue performing at the final two concerts of the Asia tour which are scheduled in Jakarta’s Sentul International Convention Centre.
The duo was set to take a three-month break from the tour before continuing performances in the United States following the Jakarta performance. Their US tour was supposed to start with a show at the Andiamo Celebrity Showroom in Warren Michigan on November 1.
Foster and McPhee share a two-year-old son Rennie David. The 'Over It' singer previously shared two sweet videos on her Instagram Story of Rennie playing with different instruments around the house in August last year.
"It makes sense that he'd be musical," Katharine told the outlet. "He's certainly obsessed with the drums! Or imaginary drums, for that matter." Foster, however, said that their son is too "young" for them to know if he would follow in their footsteps in the industry.
"When you look at somebody like [athletes] Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf, their kids are very talented... but they're not tennis players, so we don't know," he said.
