What is thought to have caused the crash is now unknown or whether any charges will be brought in connection with it. The American Coast Guard, Barnstable County Dive Team, and Sandwich Fire marine resources all participated in the underwater search after reports of a missing person emerged, as per Daily Mail.

Who was Sadie Mauro?

Sadie Mauro was one of the six occupants of a boat that collided with a jetty near Cold Storage Beach on Friday night, who was an aspiring senior at Dover-Sherborn High School. According to Massachusetts State Police, a search-and-rescue operation was begun in Sesuit Harbor at 11 p.m. for a person believed to be missing from the boat that had crashed about two hours earlier.

The young lady was hailed as "genuine and effortlessly kind" by Mauro's principal at Dover Sherborn High School. Principal John Smith stated in a letter to parents on Saturday, "Sadie’s smile could light up a room, she had a heart of gold and the sweetest spirit. She had such a strong sense of self and had a love for adventure and anything outdoors. A hardworking student and great athlete, Sadie was genuine and effortlessly kind."

Mauro competed at the State Championship in lacrosse last month and was a standout midfielder. "I can't wait to continue my athletic and academic career collegiately!" the high school student wrote on her recruitment page about her aspirations to play lacrosse in college.

Mauro's recruitment page reads: "My name is Sadie Mauro, and I am a rising junior at Dover-Sherborn High School in Dover, MA. I am entering my 4th year playing with Mass Elite as a defender/midfielder. I am determined and versatile on the field, and overall a very coachable player who is always eager to get better. This past spring my coach Erin Massimi led us to our second Massachusetts State Championship in a row. Working as a team to achieve these successes, and being a starter this season has been extremely rewarding and motivating. I can't wait to continue my athletic and academic career collegiately!"

What happened to the Cape Cod boat?

According to the Cape and Islands District Attorney's Office, a preliminary inquiry revealed that the boat was outfitted with two outboard 250-horsepower motors with an Alabama registration. The Massachusetts Environmental Police marine assets and a state police marine unit performed dive procedures at the crash site on Saturday, July 22, in an attempt to recover boat debris.

Following the incident on Friday night, reports of a missing person prompted the state Environmental Police, the Coast Guard, the Barnstable County Dive Team, and the Sandwich Fire Marine to conduct a combined search. The State Police Detective Unit for the Cape and Islands District, the Cape and Islands District Attorney's Office, and Dennis Police are working with State Police Crime Scene Services to undertake the death investigation, stated the authorities.
