BROOKHAVEN, GEORGIA: Georgia woman Linda Powell, 55, tragically lost her life after she was hit by two different drivers, who did not stop to help and continued moving.
The incident happened near Clairmont Road and Canmont Drive on Thursday, October 19. The Brookhaven Police found Lowell’s lifeless body on the road.
Based on witness reports and video footage, the police have arrested two individuals they believe are responsible for the fatal hit-and-run.
How did Lynda Powell die?
The incident happened at around 7 am in the morning when Powell was going to her work.
Two separate vehicles struck her and left her on the road, the authorities said.
Powell’s daughter Amanda Whitaker told Fox 5 that the 55-year-old mother had to regularly cross Clairmont Road in order to get to the bus stop.
She also said there were no nearby crosswalks and they have seen others do the same.
Amanda said, "She just does not deserve to have lain in the middle of a road and died all alone and no one to care about that."
Whitaker also told the news outlet, "She had the biggest heart of anybody I know," before adding, "I need to know where she took her last breaths."
Whitaker has created a GoFundMe page to bear her mother's funeral expenses as Powell reportedly did not have a life insurance.
The grieving daughter wrote that her mother “tragically lost her life while crossing the street Thursday morning on her way to work when she was struck by 2 vehicles.”
She added, “Neither driver stopped to render aid and she passed away as a result.”
Describing her mother, Amanda wrote, “She was only 55 years old and was a very lively person with a heart of gold. She would spend an entire day cooking meals and then taking food to the homeless people around Atlanta.”
“She adored her grandchildren and was maternal to everyone that was fortunate enough to know her. She lived her life helping others and worrying about everyone she loved,” continued the grieving daughter.
Who has been arrested?
Per Fox 5, two men were arrested and booked into DeKalb County Jail on October 23.
The two individuals, Koechiesta Smith, 51, of Atlanta, and Huge Valente, 21, of Brookhaven have been charged with felony hit-and-run, per Inside Edition.
The investigation is still underway. According to the police, additional charges may be filed against the two suspects.
