COATESVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA: An 83-year-old resident of Coatesville, Pennsylvania, Uley Hines, has been accused of fatally shooting his roommate following an alleged dispute over a dog, as per the New York Post.
Chester County District Attorney Deb Ryan's office reported that Hines was taken into custody and charged with counts of first-degree and third-degree murder, possession of a weapon, and possession of an instrument of crime.
Witness recounts what might have happened between Uley Hines and Keith Boggs
The incident unfolded when the Coatesville Police Department responded to reports of a shooting that apparently took place at a residence on Graham Avenue in Coatesville around 8.40 am on Saturday, August 19.
Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim, later identified as 61-year-old Keith Boggs, unresponsive on the front steps with a gunshot wound to his upper left chest.
Inside the residence, a juvenile female occupant was heard screaming as emergency personnel arrived and officers also noticed a bloody shoe print along with drops of blood a short distance from the front door.
Boggs was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. According to the 911 caller, two gunshots were heard before seeing the victim's feet on the ground.
Video footage reviewed by investigators also depicted Hines and Boggs together at the residence just before the alleged shooting took place.
A witness who spoke to investigators later that day at the Coatesville Police Station stated that Hines lived at the house with Boggs, alongside another roommate, and her child. They also recounted overhearing an argument between Boggs and Hines about a dog.
According to them, Boggs was taking the dog upstairs before two gunshots were heard, followed by Hines saying, "I told you to stop f*****g with me." The witness reported hearing Boggs fall to the ground afterward.
Autopsy reveals Keith Boggs had multiple bullet wounds
Boggs' autopsy revealed that he had sustained three bullet wounds, one shot each on the left and right sides of his chest, along with another on his right arm.
District Attorney Deb Ryan expressed, "This was a senseless crime that has left a community grieving," according to the New York Post.
He added, "Gun violence remains a devastating epidemic across the nation, and we send our deepest condolences to Mr Boggs’s family and friends. Our office will do everything in our power to hold the defendant accountable for this loss."
As of now, the officials are still investigating Keith Boggs' death.
