HOUSTON, TEXAS: A former Houston police detective has expressed his fear after an activist has gotten himself involved in the complicated case of Rudy Farias. Mark Stephens reportedly said that Quanell X’s theories about the case could impact the investigation into it. The activist accused investigators of lying and not charging Farias’ mother, Janie Santana, who allegedly kept him hidden for the past eight years.
Farias was 17 when he reportedly went missing in 2015. Since then, his mother claimed that he had not been found. However, on June 29, Farias, who is now 25, was discovered on a church’s steps in the Magnolia Park community and his family went on to release a statement, which read, “We want to thank the media and public for all their support. My son Rudy Farias IV was found on Thursday, June 29, after being missing for eight years. Currently, we do not have any additional information on Rudy's case.”
“What we do know is at the time of his recovery, a good Samaritan located him unresponsive and immediately called the police and 911. My son Rudy is receiving the care he needs to overcome his trauma, but at this time, he is nonverbal and not able to communicate with us. We are asking for privacy during this difficult time but will share more details as Rudy continues to heal,” the statement added.
‘I still feel that he’s traumatized’
Farias' neighbors began alleging that he had never gone missing in the first place. His aunt accused Santana of lying and stated, “He [Farias] doesn’t want to go back to his mom. I still feel that he’s traumatized. He’s gone through a lot and I still feel that further actions need to be taken.”
Quanell reportedly claimed that Farias was abused by his mother. He alleged, “She was giving him drugs. She was punishing him by locking him in a room over and over. She convinced him that law enforcement wanted to put him in jail, that law enforcement was looking for him because he ran away, and that because he ran away, he was going to go to prison.”
Quanell also slammed the investigators and called them “absolute liars,” He said, “That man heard everything that I heard.” However, Stephens believed otherwise. According to ABC13, he said, “There have been crimes committed here, but how do you get to the bottom of it? And how do you get it to the point where you can prosecute the case?”
‘Rudy, the alleged victim here, has been on psychedelic drugs’
The ex-detective continued, “He got on national television and declared to the world for the past eight years, Rudy, the alleged victim here, has been on psychedelic drugs. So basically for the last decade, why would you then believe him when he tells you these horrible stories about his mother?”
“To expect them to jump out and make an arrest based on all this, it's impossible. You can't do that. We need to step back and let HPD do their job,” Stephens added.
Who is Quanell X?
Quanell is a self-described public figure, who also calls himself “a community leader who has dedicated my life for the ‘Liberation and Freedom’ of the Black Man and Woman!”
He has a website which states, “My life's work has been dedicated to my community and beyond. I have always stood for what's right and I've put my own life in danger to bring justice and peace to others!”
