WASHINGTON DC: Congresswoman Nancy Mace has hit back after receiving criticism for sharing a graphic personal story at a prayer breakfast. The Republican politician made the remarks about being dragged back to bed by fiancé Patrick Bryant during a Capitol Hill luncheon organized by Senator Tim Scott.
The congresswoman from South Carolina said that she turned down her fiancé because she needed to get to the breakfast on time in a post on X, previously known as Twitter. "Another year, another standing room only event," Mace mentioned. "When I woke up this morning at 7, I was getting picked up at 7.45, Patrick, my fiancé, tried to pull me by my waist over this morning in bed." She added, "And I was like, 'No, baby, we don't got time for that this morning. I got to get to the prayer breakfast.'"
Who is Nancy Mace's fiance?
Nancy Mace announced her engagement to Patrick Bryant, her longtime boyfriend, in May 2022. Bryant runs his own software business in Charleston, South Carolina. He earned a mass communications degree from the University of South Carolina in 1996.
Bryant was able to work as a video producer for WIS-TV while he was still in school. Mace's future spouse began working for NBC Universal as a field producer in 1998. He has held former chairmanships for the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce and Palmetto Goodwill over the years. He presently works as a partner for Teamphoria and Event.Gives, according to his LinkedIn profile. Bryant established CODE/+/TRUST, a software development company, in May 2018, as per The Sun.
'She's a repreSINtative'
The politician then made a joke about how the admission could have been too detailed. She said, "He can wait, I'll see him later tonight," to the laughter of the audience. Mace's apparent allusion to pre-marital sex upset a lot of conservatives.
Tim Young, a right-wing comic with 800,000 followers on X, stated, "Here's your daily reminder that Nancy Mace is trash." "That’s some hoe talk," stated Florida Congressional candidate Lavern Spicer. "Nancy Mace just said she turned down sex from her NOT husband but her fiancé this morning in bed because she had to get to the PRAYER BREAKFAST," podcaster Graham Allen claimed. "I’ll take 'what is a sin for $500 Alex.'" "She's a repreSINtative," said another user.
'I’m a sinner not a saint!'
Mace responded to the criticism with one of her own amusing tweets on Thursday, July 27. "I go to church because I’m a sinner not a saint!" she stated, adding, "Glad those in attendance, including Sen. Tim Scott and my pastor, took this joke in stride. Pastor Greg and I will have extra to talk about on Sunday."
