LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Kassidy Jones, a 13-year-old LA teen, was badly assaulted by an adult woman, who was a stranger to her, on Wednesday, September 6. The incident occurred after Jones left school and went to a nearby McDonald's in Harbor City, Los Angeles, to get a bite to eat.
The unprovoked attack that saw the youngster being beaten mercilessly was documented in a now-viral video.
Her family and local authorities are demanding justice.
Why was Kassidy Jones attacked inside McDonald's?
Kassidy Jones claimed the unnamed woman attacked her after she had stopped at the eatery to refuel before heading home. The officials are looking for the culprit.
"They got some food, and I was going to the bathroom," Kassidy told KTLA about the September 6 attack.
The stranger jumped on her when she exited the restroom, telling her that the girl and her companions were staring at her "aggressively." The adult woman can be seen in the video yanking Kassidy's hair, knocking her to the ground, and striking her repeatedly.
"What the F are you looking at? I fight kids. I’ll fight you!'" the woman apparently said. However, Kassidy states, "It was totally unprovoked." The girl said,"I don’t know her. I didn’t say anything to her."
How did Kassidy Jones try to defend herself during the attack?
The teen made an unsuccessful attempt to defend herself. However, she was soon pinned to the ground by the larger woman.
A man, who appeared to be with the woman, responded as Jones was yelling and sobbing while being attacked. The unidentified man pulls the woman off the teen victim in the video and is seen walking away with her.
The girl explained, "I was focused on protecting myself because I knew the moment I put my hands down I was probably going to get beat to death," adding that she was dumbfounded that she couldn't do anything.
She called her mother Angelina Gray after the woman was lifted off of her, and she came to her aid right away.
"When she called me, she was screaming and hollering, and I’m standing there like, 'oh my God, I don’t know what to do,' " Gray recalled to Fox 11.
"I see her, and she’s covered in blood everywhere," Gray recounted. "She’s crying nonstop. She would not stop crying." The mother rushed the child to the hospital.
Kassidy Jones' mother seeks justice for her daughter
"My daughter is hurting emotionally. She can't sleep at night. She's bruised... She doesn't want to go to school because she's tired of the kids and everybody asking her what happened and making fun of her," stated Gray, Kassidy's mother.
The video shows numerous people observing the assault. One person eventually stepped up to assist. "It wasn't a fight, it was a beating."
Kassidy's mother, other family members, and locals had gathered for a protest outside the McDonald's where the incident occurred the following Saturday, on September 9.
They are urging both the involved woman to come forward and the McDonald's supervisors to face charges for their failure to intervene.
"I would like for the person who brutally attacked my daughter to turn herself in. I know you're watching, I know your family is watching... Do the right thing and turn yourself in," Gray added.
The mother of the teenager also expressed her disappointment that McDonald's hasn't apologized.
The incident is still under investigation, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. There have been no arrests, per 6ABC.
"I just couldn’t believe another human being would do this," stated Gray. "You just do not do this. I mean, this is a 13-year-old," she told Fox 11.
