LEE COUNTY, FLORIDA: A convicted rapist and murderer allegedly attacked his own attorney in court. The incident reportedly happened on Monday, June 26, before Joseph Zieler was awarded two death sentences for the sexual assault and killings of 11-year-old Robin Cornell and her 32-year-old babysitter, Lisa Story, in May 1990.
The criminal, who appeared to flaunt “killer” written on his teeth, expressed his desire to privately speak to his lawyer Kevin Shirley and also requested to switch off the cameras for some time, the Daily Mail reported. However, when Shirley came near him, he punched him in the face using his elbow. The official guards at the scene soon captured him before taking him outside the courtroom.
After getting hit, Shirley told Fox 4, “It seemed like he didn't want our conversation to be picked up by the microphones. So he waved me down and I bent over, and he struck me. The bailiffs were extremely quick to respond and eliminated any future threat.”
Who is Joseph Zieler?
Zieler sexually assaulted and killed Robin and Lisa 33 years ago. He was sentenced by Judge Robert Banning, who said, “The court concludes that under the laws of the State of Florida, the defendant has forfeited his right to live.”
State Attorney Amira Fox also stated, “I moved here in 1990 and this crime had just happened, I was a young prosecutor then and it stuck with me all of that time. I moved here in 1990 and this crime had just happened, I was a young prosecutor then and it stuck with me all of that time.”
Fox went on to further state, “I hope the verdict and sentence recommendation have finally brought some sense of justice and closure to the families of Lisa Story and Robin Cornell,” before adding, “I want to thank them for their incredible patience and understanding as we all worked together to bring this case to closure over the years.”
‘That is sickening’
A lot of people commented on Zieler’s actions, with a user tweeting, “The violence and that evil face is what that poor girl and babysitter saw. That is sickening. 💔” Another shared, “Well if ever confirmation was given for a predilection to hurt...there it is. Hope the lawyer charges extra for being Head and shoulders above the elbow…”
A third wrote, “I hope the lawyer gave him the finger and then walked out of court.” “This man is absolutely a lunatic. So glad he will rot to death in prison! Absolutely horrible thing not even worthy of being called a human being,” another added.
