ORLANDO, FLORIDA: A Florida woman is facing murder charges after her 13-year-old son was found strangled in his bed at her St Cloud residence.
Jasmin Kennedy, 37, appeared in court on Tuesday. The judge ordered that she should remain in custody without a bond.
What did Jasmin Kennedy do?
Osceola County deputies discovered the boy dead on a bed inside the St Cloud house at 7.30 am on Monday, August 21. The boy's mother admitted to killing him, Osceola County Sheriff Marcos Lopez said during a news conference on Monday, Fox 35 reported.
Lopez claimed that Kennedy told responding officers and deputies that she had choked her son to death.
"Fire rescue crew members advised that a female subject spontaneously stated that she killed her son," Lopez said. "According to our deputies, she had been choking him on the bed," he added, as per Law&Crime.
According to Lopez, at least one sheriff's deputy is also said to have overheard Kennedy's "spontaneous" admission.
What are the charges leveled against Jasmin Kennedy?
Kennedy was charged with domestic battery by strangulation, aggravated child abuse, and child neglect following her arrest.
The Osceola County Sheriff's Office added a charge of premeditated first-degree murder after speaking with the Medical Examiner's Office on Tuesday.
Why did Jasmin Kennedy kill her child?
Officials have not published the victim's name, but he had markings on his neck that were consistent with physical strangulation. He was declared dead on the spot.
Kennedy has confessed to the crime, but has not stated why she murdered her son.
According to Lopez, Kennedy shared a house on Crosley Avenue with her grandmother, the grandmother's boyfriend, the victim, and her other child, a 5-year-old who wasn't hurt, reports Law&Crime.
Sheriff Lopez claimed that a family member dialed 911 on Monday morning, although he could not specify who made the call.
