ATLANTA, GEORGIA: Internet users have been sharing mugshots of Damaris Milton, 44, of Atlanta, who was detained on Wednesday, October 11, for reportedly stabbing three persons, including a police lieutenant.
According to the New York Post, Milton attacked three people inside the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, including a police officer and a cab driver, in a frightening assault that was caught on camera.
What did Damaris Milton do?
In an unprovoked attack, Milton is accused of stabbing three people, including a police lieutenant, at the security checkpoint close to the airport's south terminal.
The woman, identified by WSBTV as 44-year-old Milton, was shown on alarming video waving the blade at oncoming officers as onlookers stood just feet away from her, separated only by glass.
The Post reported that at about 4.45 pm, authorities received a call about a woman "who stood outside the security checkpoint near the airport's south terminal, which features domestic flights."
Milton is said to have started her alleged stabbing rampage by attacking her cab driver when she first arrived at the airport before police tried to contain her and "limit her movement."
According to FOX 5 Atlanta, Selemon Melkamu, the taxi driver, reported to the police that he picked up Orlando, Florida native Milton from the Kensington MARTA station.
Melkamu claimed that Milton stabbed him in the upper chest near his shoulder on the way to the airport as they drove by the international sign for the airport on Interstate 285 South. Then she seized his phone and hurled it onto the freeway out the window.
Milton allegedly stabbed an airport employee and an APD lieutenant in the leg as police tried to get her to put down the weapon.
The outlet reported that the lieutenant's artery was cut when he was stabbed in the thigh. The ticket agent at the airport "was nicked by the blade."
The three victims have non-life-threatening injuries and are in stable condition. Their identities have not yet been made public by the authorities, who also stated that they are "alert, conscious and breathing."
Although there doesn't seem to be a connection between her and the victims, Sgt John Chafee of the Atlanta police said that they would be looking into the matter.
Police are still trying to figure out what triggered Milton's rage, but Chafee stated, "Charges are going to be filed at some point."
Four counts of severe assault were brought against Milton. On Thursday, October 12, she made her first appearance in court and was refused bond.
According to Fox 5, there were no flight cancellations or delays at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport as a result of the incident, and authorities were still looking into it.
