PRESCOTT, ARIZONA: A marriage dispute took a violent turn when an Arizona woman named Christina Pasqualetto allegedly attempted to murder her estranged husband.
The 62-year-old woman is now charged with attempted first-degree murder, forgery and theft, and aggravated assault.
She is booked into the Yavapai County Jail following the harrowing act of violence, according to a Facebook post by the Prescott Police Department, reported People.
Who is Jon Pasqualetto?
Jon Pasqualetto was Christina's estranged husband who lived in Prescott.
The assailant drove from Gilbert to Jon's home she previously shared with him and shot him on Wednesday, September 20, stated police.
According to PPD's statement, Pasqualetto allegedly told investigators that she arrived at the home just before midnight.
An intense verbal altercation ensued about their ongoing divorce proceedings.
In an interview with the police, Pasqualetto expressed her unwillingness to divorce, stated police.
"When he told her that he still wanted to get a divorce and wasn't changing his mind, she produced a handgun and shot him while he was still in bed," read the department's media release.
Jon Pasqualetto escaped by allegedly striking Christina who shot him
After he was shot by his estranged wife, the 80-year-old man managed to "knock her down," ultimately causing her to lose control of the weapon she used to shoot him.
"During that time, the victim did strike the suspect with his hands and elbows to escape the situation. The victim was ultimately able to escape and ran to a neighbor's house to call 911," the police explained.
Following police's arrival at the scene, they determined that the victim had suffered a gunshot injury to his wrist. Jon received immediate medical attention at the scene.
He was airlifted to a hospital in the Phoenix area after he was shifted to a local hospital. He was taken to the facility with "non-life-threatening injuries."
Christina Pasqualetto allegedly stole items from Jon's home
Police stated that the victim informed them that he had changed the locks at his home in Prescott before the incident. However, the keys and "other items" in his home had reportedly gone missing.
Jon revealed to the investigators that Christina had allegedly "stolen checks and forged a check about a week prior for $10,000 and cashed it."
The police later uncovered evidence supporting the victim's claimes as they found a desposit slip that matched the transaction discovered in Christina's purse.
During the interview with the investigators, she then admitted to forgery and theft. It remains unclear whether the suspect has obtained legal representation.
