FRESNO COUNTY, CALIFORNIA: A 22-year-old man has admitted to murdering and dismembering his ex-girlfriend with whom he shared a seven-month-old baby. Cameron Wright who was sentenced to 55 years to life in prison on July 19 confessed he was high on drugs when he stabbed Samantha Sharp up to 30 times.
Sharp was on her hands and knees as she told Wright "I love you" when he stabbed her. He then mutilated and disposed of the remains in an orchard. According to Law and Crime, three months after the murder, he entered a guilty plea.
Who is Cameron Wright?
On January 9, Wright, the 22-year-old, murdered 24-year-old Sharp, and on May 18, appeared in court for his guilty plea. The victim's family members gave their emotional testimony in the courtroom. "She was so in love with you, and eventually, you stole her life from her. You stole her from her family, and you stole her from her beautiful children," Sharp's cousin Jennifer Lewing tearfully said.
Michele Hill, the victim's mother also spoke as she said, "What made you do this? You destroyed our lives. You took her life from us, and now we are taking your life from you and your family," and Sharp's younger brother Brandon Loudermilk said, "When I first met you, I told you to take care of my sister." He went on saying, "You told me you were going to be like a bigger brother and that you would protect my sister. And then you did this, Cameron."
Wright denied claims he was a devil worshipper
After a family member accused Wright of being a follower of Satan, he responded, "I am not a devil worshiper. I was on drugs. I was on methamphetamine,” and sobbed saying, "I am sorry."
Describing the murder as gruesome, Fresno County Superior Court Judge Mark Cullers said, "There have been plenty of people high on meth, but not many people deliberate on killing the mother of their children, then go ahead and kill them, dismember them, and hide the body parts."
How was Wright caught?
According to officials, the Fresno County Sheriff's Office received a call on January 9 when someone informed them Wright claimed to have murdered and dismembered his ex-girlfriend and added that he has scattered her remains throughout different areas in Fresno County.
After Wright provided them with the locations, police responded to the areas and found the remains in an orchard. The 22-year-old was then taken into custody and was held in the Fresno County Jail. Wright and Sharp had a newborn son at the time of her killing and he is currently in the care of Sharp's family.
