LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Almost two decades after the debut of the teen comedy cult classic, several of the original 'Mean Girls' cast members got together briefly on Friday, October 6, in Los Angeles for a secretive shoot.
Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Seyfried, and Lacey Chabert have remained friends since the 2004 film that was adapted into a stage musical and even now, as a feature film version of the musical is in the works.
However, 44-year-old Rachel McAdams, who played Regina George in the 2004 movie, was not present during the LA shooting.
According to Vanity Fair, the core four "plastics" earlier expressed interest in taking part in the 'Mean Girls' musical movie by Paramount+, but negotiations halted over the "disrespectful" salary offers.
It was apparently claimed by a "highly placed production source" that the women were not getting paid enough to star in the musical.
The source reportedly informed Page Six: "Paramount Pictures doesn’t want to pay the girls what they are worth. All four girls were willing to come back, but Paramount has not been respectful of what they are worth."
In the 2004 movie, Lohan, 37, played Cady Heron, a homeschooled girl who had recently immigrated to the US from Africa and she enters the 'jungle' that is the typical American high school.
It was there that she first learned about the gravity of social hierarchy after meeting teenage queen bees Gretchen Wieners (Chabert), Karen Smith (Seyfried), and their boss Regina George (McAdams), together known as 'The Plastics' in the film.
What did 'The Plastics' wear for the secret project?
The women were beaming, and Seyfried, 37, and Chabert, 41, were decked out in pink, as any self-respecting Plastic would be, for the Wednesday shoot on October 4.
Lohan, a new mother who announced the birth of her son Luai in July, left the house wearing a wide-leg pair of gray pants and a long-sleeved black button-down shirt.
In another image, Seyfried was seen carrying a microphone and donning a jacket, maybe as a throwback to her appearance in 'Mean Girls,' where she gave her students a weather report and informed them that there was "a 30 percent chance it’s already raining."
Chabert strolled passed a silver convertible while wearing a form-hugging, sleeveless pink bodycon dress and neutral-colored, high heels. She too wore camera-ready makeup and sported a diamond pendant as an accessory.
There are currently no known details on any 'official' reunions, although the film will mark a significant anniversary in 2024.
The award-winning film, written by Tina Fey and based on Rosalind Wiseman's 'Queen Bees and Wannabes: Helping Your Daughter Survive Cliques, Gossip, Boyfriends, and Other Realities of Adolescence', continues to resonate with viewers of all ages.
On October 3, Paramount uploaded 23 separate clips from the original movie to TikTok, in honor of "Mean Girls Day," each lasting anything from 60 seconds to 10 minutes, per Daily Mail.
'Mean Girls' fans wonder 'about Rachel McAdams'
As soon as the images of the three "plastics" attending a secret shoot went viral, fans took to social media to ask why the fourth "plastic," McAdams who played Regina George, was MIA.
One fan asked on X (formerly Twitter), "And what about Rachel McAdams?"
A second fan also enquired, "Where is REGINA GEORGE!"
"No Rachel McAdams?" asked another one.
One fan exclaimed, "We need Rachel McAdams too. Just saying"
Another one chimed in, "Where is the most beautiful aka RACHEL MCADAMS?"
"Where is Rachel McAdams, maybe a sequel?" the questions for McAdams went on.
One more asked, "Where is my girl Rachel?"
One more typed, "Okie and but where’s Rachel??"
Another McAdams fan claimed, "The reunion of the Mean Girls queens. But Rachel McAdams is missing, she is very necessary."
