PENSACOLA, FLORIDA: Todd Chrisley was recently given the wrong medication in prison. At the moment, he is serving his sentence at FPC Pensacola in Florida.
Todd's lawyer, Jay Surgent, talked about the incident and referred to the system operating inside the federal prison as “very cruel, broken and inhumane,” in a conversation with Radar Online.
Surgent told the media outlet, "The medical department is in shambles." Along with this, he also accused the staff members of the prison of giving the incarcerated reality TV star "medicine intended and belonging to another inmate."
The lawyer also alleged that Chrisley was not the only one who received the wrong medication.
Todd's lawyer Jay also accused the medical department of "inadvertently" giving another prisoner insulin which “rendered them unconscious and they were rushed to the hospital” only three weeks ago.
Jay further added, "These types of mix-ups and mistakes are inexcusable and just another indication of how terrible these conditions are and have become."
Why was Todd Chrisley sentenced to prison?
For those unaware, Todd and his wife, Julie Chrisley were sentenced to prison in November 2022 after they were found guilty of bank and fraud charges. Then, Peter Tarantino, their accountant, was also found guilty of tax fraud for filing false corporate tax returns on their behalf.
At that point in time, the Chrisley family patriarch was sentenced to 12 years in prison. On the other hand, when we talk about his wife Julie, she was sentenced to 7 years.
In July 2023, their son Chase recalled visiting his parents and seeing them living in "inhumane conditions."
While making an appearance on the July 25 episode of 'Unlocked with Savannah Chrisley', he said to his sister Savannah, “It’s a nightmare. Now they both have no air conditioning. They are both in states where it gets to be 100+ degrees and there’s no air conditioning.”
Was Todd Chrisley's prison sentence reduced?
In September 2023, it was revealed that Todd and his wife Julie's prison sentences were reduced. Earlier his prison sentence was 12 years but now it has been shortened by 2 years. He will be released from the Federal Prison Camp Pensacola on January 22, 2033.
As per the Federal Bureau of Prisons' online inmate search system, Chrisley's wife Julie will now leave the Federal Medical Center Lexington on October 19, 2028, which is 14 months before her original prison sentence was supposed to conclude.
'Chrisley Knows Best' alum Todd Chrisley feels god sent him to prison to help others
Todd thinks that god has sent him to prison to help others. His lawyer Jay, during an interview with TMZ, stated that Chrisley encountered "gross negligence and such total disregard for human life and decency from both the staff and just the entire corrections system," while serving his sentence at FPC Pensacola in Florida.
Now, the TV personality feels like he has a platform where he can discuss issues faced by him and other inmates daily. He is trying to use his time, energy, and resources to make prison life tolerable.
Surgent mentioned that his client Todd is planning to launch some programs and resources to address the problems that he and the other inmates are facing.
A representative for the Federal Bureau of Prisons told the media outlet, "While we decline to comment on anecdotal allegations, we can emphatically assure you the Federal Bureau of Prisons (FBOP) is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all individuals in our population, our staff, and the public."
The representative also declared, "Humane treatment of the men and women in our custody is a top priority."
