LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Whoopi Goldberg has always been open about her take on relationships, dating, and marriage on 'The View' as well as during her appearances on other talk shows.
Goldberg, who has sworn off getting married after her previous experiences, has wisdom to impart, including her take on dating younger men. 'The View' co-host once revealed why she stopped dating younger men.
Why won't Whoopi Goldberg date younger men anymore?
Goldberg has discussed the phenomenon of dating younger men on a few occasions. When asked on a 2021 episode of 'The View' whether she preferred dating younger or older men, Goldberg first responded, "It depends on my mood. Because it’s about the person."
Later, she elaborated, highlighting why she "stopped doing lots of things with younger folks." She spoke about how a younger man she dated didn’t know about the band The Beatles and said, "You have to know when you’re going younger, there’s a lot of information that you have to impart. And sometimes it’s tiring."
'If they are five years younger than you then there’s a whole section of time that is gone'
During her appearance on 'The Drew Barrymore Show', Goldberg recalled the same incident. In the interview with Drew Barrymore, Goldberg opined, "It cannot be five years…cannot make the distance five years," talking about age gaps in relationships.
"You can’t because if they are five years younger than you then there’s a whole section of time that is gone, that makes it difficult," continued 'The View' host. Barrymore then said that she wouldn’t mind someone her age or older.
To that, Goldberg advised, "Well, if you’re going to do a hit and run, then you can have someone younger," adding, "Let’s not forget, that sometimes you don’t want an entire relationship, sometimes you just need a little…"
Goldberg made some interesting hand gestures to try and demonstrate her point without actually saying it, before she finally said, "A little boom boom."
Were Whoopi Goldberg’s ex-husbands younger than her?
'The View' host has been married thrice. Alvin Martin is two years younger than her, with whom she was married between 1973 and 1979.
David Claessen, with who she was married from 1986 to 1988, is three years younger than her, and Lyle Trachtenberg, with whom she was married for a year, is the same age as Goldberg.
By the looks of it, she stood by the five-year gap for her marriages as she advised Barrymore on her show.
