NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce said NFL TV is "overdoing" Taylor Swift's appearances in coverage during the past two weeks of his Kansas City Chiefs games.
On the newest episode of his podcast 'New Heights' with his brother Jason Kelce, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end discussed the NFL's overbearing coverage of Swift amid their rumored affair.
Jason asked his sibling, "Let's get to it. Is the NFL overdoing it? What's your honest opinion? Take away your feelings for Taylor."
Travis answered, "I think it’s fun when they show who all is at the game. I think it brings a little bit more to the atmosphere, brings a little bit more to what you’re watching. But at the same time, they’re overdoing it a little bit for sure… especially my situation. I think they’re trying to have fun with it," as per Variety.
Celebrities, who attend football games, according to Travis, "aren’t there to be thrown on the TV."
Perhaps the NFL is "just not used to celebrities coming to the games," Jason mused.
In response, Jason continued, "Basketball has it figured out… [celebrities are] courtside, they show them once or twice, and then they get back to the game."
"The NFL is like, ‘Look at all these A-list celebrities at the game! Show them! Show them!’ Dude, show them once and get a little clip, but you can’t be overboard with it."
Taylor Swift attended the last two Chiefs games in support of her rumored boyfriend
The Grammy-winning pop star, 33, has attended the last two Chiefs games in support of her rumored boyfriend, with the first being on September 24 in Kansas City and the second on October 1 in New Jersey.
The league has thereafter capitalized on the 'Cruel Summer' singer's participation by sharing multiple posts about it on social media. They even changed their Instagram bio to read, "The @Chiefs are now 2-0 with @TaylorSwift13 in attendance."
Cameras frequently panned to Swift's group of celebrity friends throughout Sunday's Chiefs-Jets game, including Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Sophie Turner, Hugh Jackman, Sabrina Carpenter, and 'Queer Eye' star Antoni Porowski.
As per The Independent, the NFL has also catered to its newly discovered Swiftie fanbase by launching a special section with Carson Daly, in which Daly was entrusted with educating the crowd on the ins and outs of football.
NFL speaks out in defense of Swift-Kelce backlash
In reaction to the "overdoing" backlash, the NFL issued a statement via 'People Magazine' justifying their extensive coverage of Swift.
The NFL told People, "We frequently change our bios and profile imagery based on what’s happening in and around our games, as well as culturally."
"The Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce news has been a pop cultural moment we’ve leaned into in real-time, as it’s an intersection of sport and entertainment, and we’ve seen an incredible amount of positivity around the sport," they added.
The NFL statement concluded, "The vast majority of our content has remained focused on the game, our players and variety of other initiatives, including our Toy Story Funday Football alt-cast, the international games and more."
Internet trolls NFL for showing Taylor Swift 'every 5 mins!'
Several NFL fans took to social media platforms to slam the NFL for their response to the "overdoing" Swift coverage at the games.
One X (formerly Twitter) user claimed, "The NBA doesn’t talk about the celebrities at the games constantly. The NFL doesn’t need to either."
A second user said, "As a fan of BOTH, Its okay to show her sometimes but it starts to feel invasive when all the cameras are her all the time when she just wants to support him."
"This!!! Like acknowledge she’s there but the camera was showing her every 5 mins!" exclaimed a third X user.
Another user chimed in, "Why they lying like they didn’t mention taylor 6000 times in the last two weeks not the nfl got embarrassed."
"NFL is overdoing it," asserted another one.
One user stated marketing to be the reason for the NFL overdoing it and said, "The product of marketing, perhaps they have overdone it. It is very difficult to please everyone."
Another said, "It’s inevitable. Taylor Swift is 2-0 in the regular season and we’re here for it all season!"
