'The Flash' director Andy Muschietti confirms Ezra Miller will not star in potential sequel amid star's legal troubles

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'The Flash's future was hanging by a thread by the number of accusations that were riled up against its leading actor Ezra Miller. With the potential possibility of 'The Flash' setting up an entirely new DC universe as envisioned by James Gunn, it was obvious that all the characters would be recast.

Warner Bros did not have any other option but to replace Miller for the future Flash movies because their scandals kept mounting on top of the other. With 'The Flash' itself being almost a decade in making, the studios did not want to initially take a risk with recasting in the recent feature mainly due to the potential losses it may cause. However, it was director Andy Muschietti's perception that might lead to Miller being recast in potential future sequels.

Is Ezra Miller's casting deemed progressive?

At a time when majority of the superhero movies have been helmed by straight actors, Miller's queer and binary status elevates the nature of the representation of superheroes. It is likely that if a potential sequel is at work and Andy is attached to the project then Miller would easily get the opportunity to reprise their role.

However, with the scandals and legal troubles mounting on Miller's head constantly, it would mean even worse for the studio despite their fantastic portrayal of the character. The legal charges that have been rounded up against Miller have caused severe unease among fans of the superhero genre because of the number of people who have been endangered.

Andy Muschietti has no plans to recast Ezra Miller

Muschietti conveyed that as long as he is involved in future sequels of 'The Flash', he would not consider recasting Miller because of the actor's legal troubles. Variety reported him saying, "I don’t think there’s anyone that can play that character as well as they did. The other depictions of the character are great, but this particular vision of the character, they just excelled in doing it. And, as you said, the two Barrys — it feels like a character that was made for them."

Despite Muschietti insisting on not recasting Miller for 'The Flash' sequels, it cannot be ignored that the movie was developed under the previous leadership of DC Studios. It still remains unclear whether or not Miller would be asked to reprise their role under Gunn's leadership. In terms of the present situation, Miller has apologized for their behavior and has assured that they are seeking help. Miller has also maintained that they would not talk to press for the promotional events and would only be available for photo ops.
