LAFAYETTE, INDIANA: Natalia Grace was adopted by an American family assuming her to be a child, but later it was found she was a 22-year-old adult woman. The family claimed that she tried to kill them both, and registered a case of fraud as the docuseries, ‘The Curious Case of Natalia Grace’ will be aired on the ID network. However, the ‘child’ denies the allegation and claims that she is not a 'sociopath'.
Grace in an interview, wanted to clear up her name and said she had a rare bone growth disorder. She was adopted in 2010 by Kristine and Michael Barnett. The couple in their report said they believe Grace was an 'adult sociopath masquerading as a child.' Natalia was left behind in Layfette's home, in 2013, and officials slapped the couple with ‘neglect charges’. Michael in the docuseries breaks down during the interview, "We were all abused. I hate this. She tried to poison and kill my wife. [And] one night, I opened my eyes and Natalia is standing at the foot of the bed with a knife in her hand."

'Everything started happening after that one moment'
Natalia was a guest at one of the episodes of the talk show, 'Dr Phil' in 2019, where she denied her former foster parents’ allegations. “It's not true. It's not true at all. I just want people to hear my side." on being questioned about her age and claiming that her bone scans proved she was born in 1989, Grace called it a falsehood, reports LadBIble.
"Everything started happening after that one moment. I actually thought I had found the right family after bouncing around from a lot of families. I thought I had found the right family for me," Natalia said.
'Adult masquerading as a child'
The synopsis for the upcoming docuseries ‘The Curious Case of Natalia Grace’ which will be aired on May 29 reads, "Initially assumed to be a six-year-old Ukrainian orphan with a rare bone growth disorder, Natalia was adopted by Kristine and Michael Barnett in 2010. However, the happy family dynamic soured when allegations against Natalia were brought by the Barnetts who alleged Natalia was an adult masquerading as a child with intent to harm their family."
It further said, "In 2013, Natalia was discovered living on her own which ignited an investigation that led to Michael and Kristine's arrest and a firestorm of questions.”
