'That was my life': Olivia Plath says 'Shiny Happy People' was 'triggering' as it happened to her too

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Olivia Plath hss revealed that it was “triggering to watch" the new Prime Video docuseries about the Duggar family, 'Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets', as it inflicted negative emotions and appeared to be too sensitive for her. The 25-year-old television personality spoke in an Instagram Story post on Saturday, June 3, about how the docuseries about the Duggar family and their controversial religion, the Institute in Basic Life Principles, was traumatizing for her as she had similar experiences with faith.

“That was my life up until a few years ago,” Plath said according to People. “A little triggering to watch, but also there is solidarity in having other people speak up and say, ‘Yep, you're not crazy, happened to me too. I know about this.’ That is healing in a way.”

Why did Olivia find it difficult to watch?

After speaking about it on her Instagram Story, she revealed that she received an “overwhelming response from people saying, ‘Please, let’s talk about this'". This led her and her sister Lydia to detail their personal experience as “ex-[fundamentalist] and ex-cult kids” more elaborately during an Instagram Live on Monday.

“I will say, the realm in which my public life exists, there's a lot of things I can't say,” the reality star admitted. “There's a lot of things I want to say about religion, about my past, about the world that I went right back into, and I hadn't known to say them in the public space that exists for me, so I'm gonna get on [Instagram] instead.” “I'm jumping on to say my experience, to be honest, was decently negative. There's a lot of things that I laugh about now, because what else are you supposed to do?” Plath added, then clarifying that she is "not really religious anymore.”

Olivia Plath remembers brother Micah Meggs

Meaww previously reported that Olivia posted a painful letter paying her tribute to her late brother Micah Meggs, 15. The 'Welcome to Plathville' star temporarily stopped using her social media accounts after her brother met with a fatal accident. Apparently, a car hit Meggs electric bike on May 4 in Franklin County, Virginia. Plath posted to Instagram on Friday, May 19, while sharing an adorable family picture. “I’ve rewritten this a few times because somehow I have no words, even though inside of me is a vortex of every emotion possible," she wrote in the post.

The 25-year-old continued, “You’ll always be in my heart, Micah Titus. You deserved so much, and I don’t think you knew just how loved you are. I will miss your laugh so much." Plath also opened up about the pain of being unable to meet Micah, “I hadn’t been allowed to see my younger brother Micah for several years, because as an adult I’ve chosen a non-religious different life path than my parents. I can’t stop thinking about all of the memories we never got to make and how I missed out on the last few years of his life."
