CHICAGO, ILLINOIS: Stacy Davis-Gates, the President of the Chicago Teachers Union, has been an outspoken critic of private schools, often using terms like "fascist" and "racist" to describe them.
However, it has come to light that she sends her son to one.
In 2022, Davis-Gates gave a statement, saying, "I'm also a mother. My children go to Chicago Public Schools. These are the things that legitimize my space within the coalition. I can’t advocate on behalf of public education without it taking root in my own household."
However, despite her prior statements about her children attending public schools, it has been revealed that one of her sons is enrolled in the prestigious private Catholic school, De La Salle Institute, located on Chicago's south side, where the average tuition stands at approximately $14,750 per year.
Why is Stacy Davis-Gates enrolling her son in a private school?
When critics accused her of hypocrisy, Davis-Gates defended her decision by stating that she was acting in the best interests of her 14-year-old son, as the public schools in her neighborhood were of poor quality, as per Daily Mail.
She clarified that she was "forced" to enroll her son Kevin in a private school due to his aspirations of becoming a soccer player, requiring him to attend a private school to pursue his dream while receiving a curriculum that catered to his social and emotional needs.
Critics accuse Stacy Davis-Gates of 'hypocrisy'
Critics on social media are condemning her for sending her son to a private school, given her history of criticizing such institutions.
One bewildered user wrote on X (formerly Twitter), "Stacy Davis Gates rails against school choice yet has a kid in a private school??"
Another noted, "The Hypocracy is Chilling: Chicago Teachers Union President Stacy Davis Gates confirmed that she now sends her son to a private school."
A third agreed, saying, "Hypocrisy has never been thicker," while a fourth wrote, "There are so many examples of progressives' hypocrisy on any given day, but this one's a screamer from Stacy Davis Gates, Chicago Teachers Union President."
Another mocked her, writing, " 'Do as I say, don’t do as I do.' - Chicago Teachers Union President Stacy Davis Gates."
One user compared Davis-Gates to American civil rights activist, Al Sharpton, "Stacy Davis Gates is Al Sharpton with lady parts. Grifter, liar, hypocrite, politician, Stalinist. So much criticism to heap upon her."
