SUFFOLK COUNTY, NEW YORK: A haunting call made by one of the alleged victims of Rex Heuermann has now been shared by the authorities. The officials have reportedly called Shannan Gilbert's death a “tragic accident” as opposed to her family, who asserted that “she was murdered”.
The prostitute in her 20s reportedly dialed for help after disappearing in May 2010. At the time, she had gone to meet a client identified as Joseph Brewer at his home near Gilgo Beach. Her driver Michael Pak had apparently dropped her at the location. The details of the frantic call released by Suffolk police on Friday, July 14, revealed the 23-year-old woman telling the New York State Police dispatcher, as reported by NBC New York, “Somebody's after me. There's somebody after me. There's somebody after me!”
‘I want to go home’
She also said, “Something is going to happen to me. Please get me out of here ... I want to go home. Please stop it. What are you going to do to me?” However, when the dispatcher wanted to know her location, she just repeatedly replied, “There's somebody after me. Please. There's somebody after me. I don't know where I am. I am inside a house. I don't know where I am. Can you trace where I am?”
Cops also released two other 911 calls made by a homeowner named Gus Coletti whom Shannan approached for help. He reportedly said, “There's a young girl ... running around here screaming, and there's some guy trying to follow her.” Another person in the area, Barbara Brennan, also called the cops alleging a woman was unsafe. However, Suffolk County Police Commissioner Rodney Harrison has now reportedly said, “Based on the evidence, the facts, and the totality of the circumstances, the prevailing opinion in Shannan's death, while tragic, was not a murder and was most likely noncriminal.”
‘The evidence is overwhelming’
But according to John Ray, the Gilbert family's lawyer, “The audio tapes compellingly establish that Shannan Gilbert acted rationally and did not die in a tragic accident in a marsh that was impenetrable that the Suffolk County police are saying.” He stated, “She was murdered and her body was placed there. The evidence is overwhelming.”
The attorney also earlier accused cops of executing an “inadequate and negligent job” before adding, “The reason could be there was something on there that they did not want you and I to know.”
How did discovery of Shannon Gilbert's remains lead to 10 Gilgo Beach bodies?
The Daily Mail reported that Shannon was discovered dead on December 13, 2010, in a swamp in Oak Beach. Following the discovery, it has been said that between December 2010 and April 2011, numerous human remains were found near Gilgo Beach. One of the dead bodies was of Melissa Barthelemy, which was located along with seven other women, an Asian man - apparently a cross-dresser, and a baby.
