LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Tom Cruise is synonymous with the hit ‘Mission Impossible’ movie franchise and has also been honored with numerous accolades, like three Golden Globe Awards, an Honorary Palme d'Or and nominations for four Academy Awards.
The legend is now preparing for his next big release, ‘Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One’, which will be out in theatres in July. While the 60-year-old’s professional life has mostly been on track, the issues in his personal life have made headlines several times.
Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise’s marriage woes
Nicole Kidman and Cruise were once one of the power couples of Tinseltown. The two exchanged vows in 1990 before calling it quits in February 2001. Their divorce was heartbreaking for their fans but as per reports, it was more devastating for the American-Australian actress, who had no prior idea of it and faced two failed pregnancies in the marriage.
As per The Mirror, the former couple’s divorce papers said that ‘The Northman’ star urged him to think about his decision again. She “protested [Cruise's] intention to dissolve their marriage and urged him not to leave but to enter marriage counseling with her, or take other steps to address whatever problems may have existed in their marriage...Tom said his decision was final and he departed the parties' home.”
Kidman also dismissed Cruise’s claim that nothing was left in their union since December 2000 as she insisted on their intimate relationship, which also impregnated her at the time. In a 2007 interview with Marie Claire, the 55-year-old star shared, “I had a miscarriage at the end of my marriage, but I had an ectopic pregnancy at the beginning of my marriage. It was incredibly traumatic for me. Sometimes you share your grief. What will be will be. It's in God's hands.”
In 2018, Kidman gave an interview to Tatler for its July edition, where she spoke about the miscarriage. She said, “That yearning. It’s a huge, aching yearning. And the loss! The loss of a miscarriage is not talked about enough. That’s massive grief to certain women. There’s an enormous amount of pain.”
‘I wanted to have babies’
In the same interview, Kidman added, “From the minute Tom and I were married, I wanted to have babies. And we lost a baby early on, so that was really very traumatic. And that’s when it came that we would adopt Bella.”
“My mother has an adopted sister, so it’s been part of our family and I knew it would probably play out somewhere in mine. I didn’t think it would happen so early but it did,” the ‘Moulin Rouge!’ actress added. The former pair eventually became parents to two adopted children — Isabella Jane Cruise, now 30, and Connor Cruise, now 28.
Besides, Kidman is also the mother of two daughters, Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret, whom she shares with her current husband, Keith Urban. She told Marie Claire in 2021, “I would’ve loved 10 kids. But that’s OK because I get to mother other children. I have six nieces and nephews and I’m godmother to 12. I love mothering, I love kids: they’re quirky, funny, and unfiltered. And then you get to see them grow and send them on their way.”
