NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Madonna's family has opened up about the severity of her bacterial infection, revealing that they were worried sick about her. The 64-year-old singer was hospitalized in New York City after being discovered unconscious during preparations for her highly-anticipated tour. The singer had been working extremely hard, spending 12 hours a day rehearsing for several weeks in preparation for her tour.

According to a relative, Madonna's bacterial infection was so severe that her family thought she might die. "For the past couple of days, no one really knew which direction this was going to turn, and her family was preparing for the worst," the relative told Daily Mail, adding, "Everyone believed that we may lose her and that has been the reality of the situation."

'She believes that she is invincible'

The family member revealed that Madonna's health scare brought the family closer together and served as a significant wake-up call for the singer. "She has not been living as healthy a life as she should be for her age, and she has been wearing herself thin over the past couple of months. She thinks that she is still young when, in fact, she is not. She also believes that she is invincible," the relative said.

Throughout the health crisis, Madonna's daughter Lourdes Leon has reportedly remained by her side, offering support and care during this challenging time. Recent photographs captured Madonna's sons, Rocco Ritchie (22) and David Banda (17), looking visibly concerned in New York City, where the singer is receiving treatment.

Is Madonna's tour canceled?

Madonna's tour, which was supposed to begin on July 15 in Vancouver, Canada, has now been postponed. Her manager, Guy Oseary, expressed confidence in her "full recovery" but acknowledged that she has had to temporarily halt all commitments. While her health is improving, Oseary mentioned that Madonna was currently under medical supervision and receiving ongoing care.

"On Saturday June 24, Madonna developed a serious bacterial infection which led to a several day stay in the ICU. Her health is improving, however she is still under medical care." Oseary wrote in a post on Instagram. The post added, "Her health is improving, however she is still under medical care. A full recovery is expected. At this time we will need to pause all commitments, which includes the tour. We will share more details with you as soon as we have them, including a new start date for the tour and for rescheduled shows."

The Celebration tour was intended to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Madonna's illustrious music career, serving as a special milestone for the iconic artiste. Her previous tour, which commenced in September 2019, was unfortunately cut short in March 2020 due to the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.
