CLEVELAND, OHIO: Although Logan Paul has made news for a number of odd reasons, it is quite astonishing that he broke a world record by buying a Pokemon card. The YouTube phenomenon and WWE superstar spent a little portion of his more than $200 million fortune to purchase a Pikachu card at an auction last year.
Logan Paul had the distinction of owning the most expensive Pokemon trading card ever sold at a private auction during WrestleMania 38 in April. Mike Marcotte, the adjudicator, gave him the certificate.
Logan Paul’s illustrator cards
Logan Paul paid a staggering $5,275,000 to get the Pokemon card. He exchanged a PSA Grade 9 Pikachu Illustrator card for a PSA Grade 10 Pikachu Illustrator card after paying $4,000,000 in cash.
Illustrator cards are incredibly scarce to find. Only 20 of them are certified now, with eight of them being PSA 9; in 1998, only 39 of these cards were given out to illustration contest winners.
Additionally, Logan Paul has a 1st Edition Shadowless Charizard that cost him $150,000; its duplicate was auctioned for $420,000 in early 2022.
Logan Paul made a deal with Matt Allen and bought a PSA Grade 9 Pikachu Illustrator card for $1,275,000 before being conned by an unknown owner for nearly $3 million.
After speaking with collectibles specialist Jeremy Padawer, he scheduled a journey to Dubai with the intention of visiting notorious collector Dubsy.
Paul traded the card supplied to him by Matt Allen and paid an additional $4,000,000 to Dubsy in exchange for the PSA 10 Pikachu. Without fanfare or ceremony, the deal was conducted in the Burj Al Arab.
Logan Paul's expensive buys
Cards with a PSA grade are comparable to a quality seal and stamp of authenticity. The rarity and value of the trading card increase with the PSA rating.
Logan Paul is the sole possessor of a Professional Sports Authenticator grade 10 Pikachu Illustrator card, according to the Guinness Book of World Records. The five million dollar price is largely acceptable.
A Pokemon card is placed into a thin, rectangular plastic box after being examined for quality and given the PSA's seal of approval. Both during his introduction with The Miz at WrestleMania last year (PSA grade 10 Illustrator Pikachu) and during his battle with Floyd Mayweather (1st Edition Shadowless Charizard), Logan wore the cases as a pendant around his neck.
