LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Meghan Markle has been receiving an onslaught of criticism following a gaffe at the glitzy Variety event on Thursday, November 16.
In a video that went viral on social media, Markle can be seen posing elegantly on the black carpet of Variety’s Power of Women event.
The 42-year-old Duchess of Sussex rocked a $1390 beige one-shoulder dress as she graced the glamorous event.
However, a glitch happened in an otherwise impeccable fashion moment when a woman - who appeared to be an aide - tried to interrupt the ‘Suits’ actress and tried to motion her out of the carpet.
Initially, the woman, dressed in black, tried to get Markle’s attention through her hand gestures. When she failed at her endeavor, she went closer to the former actress.
It was then Markle squeezed her hand in reassurance and mouthed “That’s fine,” and continued to pose for a few more shots.
However, the social media users did not take the interaction kindly and brutally trolled the wife of Prince Harry alleging she overstayed her time on the carpet.
'First time to see someone getting shoved from the red carpet!'
Fans did not like the gaffe and slammed the Duchess online.
One of the social media users said, "This is the end of any further invitations to the Harkles to any red carpet events."
"Is this another round on her 'worldwide privacy tour'," asked someone else.
Someone else criticized, "Her moment? A meaningless empty moment. She is a guest at an awards event, that’s it."
Many netizens wondered about the aide and said, "I hate to think what was said to that aide later !!"
"Don't they want to stay out of the public eye?" asked someone else.
Another netizen said, "She’s not a duchess she’s got the title but not the grace or dignity."
"Another embarrassing moment for the lady in rags," said someone else.
Another social media user said, "First time to see someone getting shoved from the red carpet!"
Meghan's production house coming up with new projects
Later at the event, Markle told Variety that she had "no idea" why the legal drama 'Suits' has regained popularity with the younger generation.
She said to the Outlet, "It was great to work on," before adding, "Such a great cast and crew. We had a really fun time. I was on it for seven seasons, so quite a bit."
She also gushed about the upcoming projects from her production house, "We have so many exciting things on the slate. I can't wait until we can announce them, but I'm just really proud of what we're creating. My husband is loving it too which is really fun."
