LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Jeezy, the rapper, has broken his silence on his divorce from Jeannie Mai.
The 'Soul Survivor' singer said that he did not take the divorce lightly and still cares for his ex-wife.
What did Jeezy say about his divorce from Jeannie Mai?
Jeezy revealed that they had given a deep thought before finally calling it quits.
"The decision to end this chapter in my life was not made impulsively," he said in a statement, according to PageSix.
The 'Get Right' singer added the divorce "comes with a heavy heart."
However, despite embarking on separate ways, Jeezy's respect for his former life partner remains intact as he holds the moments they spend with each other close to his heart.
He added, “Despite this, my love and respect for Jeannie remains and the time we spent together holds a cherished place in my heart.”
Jeezy says his daughter with Jeannie Mai is the best gift
The 'Me OK' singer also expressed his commitment to their one-year-old daughter, Monaco, who he calls the “best gift” from their marriage.
“I am committed to assuring she feels the love and stability she deserves,” he continued.
The singer has asked for privacy as he and his family "focus on healing." Jeezy, whose real name is Jay Jenkins, filed for divorce from Mai on September 15, citing "irreconcilable differences."
He is seeking joint legal and physical custody of Monaco.
Jeezy and Jeannie Mai had 'different views'
A source, cited by Entertainment Tonight, reported that the couple had different views on “certain family values and expectations” that led to their split.
Another source told PageSix that Mai was “devastated” and hoped to work things out with Jeezy.
“[Jeannie] deeply loves Jeezy, and she wants to work things out. She did not get married to get divorced. This was not a part of the plan,” the source said.
“This is not how she ever imagined things would go down," the source added, according to the publication.
Mai and Jeezy tied the knot in Atlanta in March 2021. Mai recently announced that she would be taking a break from social media to heal.
