Harrison Olvey: Georgia valet attendant shot dead after he tried to stop car theft

ATLANTA, GEORGIA: Harrison Olvey, a valet attendant from Georgia, was killed while trying to stop an early morning car theft on Sunday, September 3.

Police were called after people noticed a man suffering from a gunshot wound. The 25-year-old was then rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Why was Harrison Olvey attacked?

According to police, Harrison tried to stop a man from breaking into a vehicle, and that’s when he was fatally shot by the unidentified suspect.

The young man’s GoFundMe page read, “Harrison Royce Olvey, 25, was tragically taken from his family, friends, and community while working as a valet in Atlanta. He was murdered in cold blood trying to stop a car theft.”

It continued, “A recent college graduate, he was working this job to make ends meet as he interviewed for full-time positions. He had such a promising future.”

Meanwhile, Atlanta police released a statement with the images of a person of interest, according to People.

"On Sunday, September 3, 2023, at around 1:40 am, Atlanta police were dispatched to 2430 Piedmont Rd NE on a person shot call. Upon arrival, officers located a male suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to the hospital where he would later succumb to his injuries,” the statement read.

It continued, “Homicide Detectives were notified and responded to the scene. Preliminary investigation revealed the decedent interrupted a male breaking into a vehicle when he was fatally shot.”

“Homicides Detectives were able to identify a person of interest who was driving what is believed to be a newer model Kia K5 with dark tinted windows and unknown tag information. They are requesting the public’s assistance on identifying this male who is to be considered ARMED and DANGEROUS.”

The authorities appealed, "Anyone with information on the case or the identity of the person of interest can submit a tip anonymously to the Crime Stoppers Atlanta tip line at 404-577-TIPS (8477), online at www.StopCrimeAtl.org, or by texting CSA and the tip to CRIMES (274637)."

It also shared a cash reward, saying, "Persons do not have to give their name or any identifying information to be eligible for the reward of up to $2,000."
