French prime minister Elisabeth Borne on Tuesday vowed a “merciless fight” against surging antisemitism after residents of the French capital discovered anti-Jewish graffiti on buildings in several districts. The discovery comes weeks into the Israel-Hamas war in which thousands of Palestinians and Israelis have been killed and hundreds of Israelis have been taken hostage by the militants in Gaza. “The situation in the Middle East does not justify antisemitism,” Ms Borne told the National Assembly during a regular questioning session. “Nothing ever excuses antisemitism ... my government is determined to wage a merciless fight against it." Since the 7 October Hamas attack on Israel, French authorities have registered 857 antisemitic acts, interior minister Gerald Darmanin said on Tuesday. “That's as many acts of antisemitism in three weeks as there have been so far this year,” he said. Mr Darmanin said police and judicial authorities have opened several investigations into the anti-Jewish graffiti around the capital and vowed to Jewish communities around France that “we will protect you, absolutely, completely, day and night.” The graffiti included a blue Star of David stamped on several buildings around the capital. “I am crying because I am going to again feel the hatred that was there when we were children,” a tearful resident of a graffiti-tagged building who gave only her first name, Marie, told BFM-TV. Carine Petit, the mayor of Paris's 14th district, reminded residents that such tags trigger painful memories. "This act of marking (buildings) is reminiscent of the acts in the (19)30s and the Second World War, which led to the extermination of millions of Jews,” Petit said in a statement posted on X, formerly Twitter. Donald Trump's 'fingerprints' have been mocked on social media following his arrest on Thursday and viral mugshot which birthed a thousand memes. The former US president turned himself in to authorities in Fulton County, Georgia where he is facing charges of election interference in the aftermath of the 2020 vote, which saw the southern state vote for Joe Biden over Trump. Trump, along with 18 others including his former lawyer Rudy Guiliani are facing numerous charges including conspiracy to replace public officials with fake ones and trying to influence officials to alter the results. The already famous mugshot, which Trump is using to raise campaign funds, isn't the only body part of Trump to be mocked following his arrest. Trump despite weighing 215 lbs and standing at a towering 6ft 3in, has always been mocked for his supposedly tiny hands. As a result memes claiming to show his fingerprints have gone viral although they are so minuscule it's hard to make out that they are anything more than just dots. There were also jokes made about the fingertips being orange due to Trump's seemingly unnatural skin tone. However, not all the memes were mocking Trump. Some of his supporters capitalised on this to show a handprint that was flipping a middle finger at the booking form. Jokes aside Trump's trial date has been set but we'll have to wait a while for it to roll around as it has been set for March 4th 2024. The mother of suspended Spanish football president Luis Rubiales has vowed to continue her hunger strike despite her son’s worried pleas for her to stop. Mr Rubiales was suspended by Fifa for kissing Women’s World Cup winner, Jenni Hermoso, on the lips in an act the footballer says she did not consent to. His mother, Angeles Bejar, has locked herself in a church in Montril, southern Spain, and is going on a hunger strike in order to end the “inhumane witch-hunt” on her son as the Spanish Football Federation (Rfef) asked the football president to resign. “I am willing to die for justice because my son is a decent person and it is not fair what they’re doing,” she told a Spanish TV station. Fifa banned Rubiales from all football-related activity for 90 days over his conduct and has launched an investigation into his behaviour, while Spanish police are now investigating the federation president for alleged sexual assault. Ms Bejar told MailOnline: “My son is very worried and has asked me not to continue, to stop, but I will be here until I drop and my body can continue. ”He is not here. He is away but he has told me to stop but I’ve said I will not. I will carry on.” Following his refusal to resign, the Spanish women’s national team signed a letter stating they will not play for their country until Rubiales is removed from his role and the coaching staff – except manager Jorge Vilda – have all walked out. The Spanish FA also requested that Uefa exclude national and club teams from all European competitions because of Spanish government intervention in the crisis – a request which Uefa has denied. Mr Rubiales’ cousin Vanessa Ruiz said his family was “suffering a lot for him, we don’t think that what’s happening is fair”. “He has been judged ahead of time.
