Dallas police have arrested a man they believe killed three women whose bodies were found over three months in the city. Oscar Sanchez Garcia, 25, was charged with two counts of murder in the deaths of Kimberly Robinson, 60, and an unidentified woman, according to the Dallas Police Department. He is also the main suspect in the slaying of a third woman, Cherish Gibson, 25. Mr Sanchez Garcia is being held on a $4m bond at the Dallas County Jail. Robinson’s body was found on 22 April 22 in a grassy area under a SART train bridge in the city. Gibson’s body was found on 24 June on the same block near the DART station. The third victim was found on Saturday less than five miles from where the other two bodies were located. An arrest warrant affidavit obtained by WFAA states that police linked the suspect to the killings using phone records, video and data from a licence plate reader that put his vehicle and phone in the areas where all three victims were last seen alive and where their bodies were found. The bodies of both Robinson and Gibson, who are both thought to have been working as sex workers, were both found partially undressed with stab injuries. Investigators say a blue Ford Truck with “distinct stickers on the rear windshield” was seen at all locations and was registered to the suspect, who lived near where the bodies of Gibson and Robinson were discovered. Christina Martinez told the news station that she has known Mr Sanchez Garcia and his family for two years and lives in the same triplex building. “He’s a calm guy, chilling guy,” she said. “He likes to play with the kids. That’s why we were like in shock.” Ms Martinez added that the suspect’s wife was in “shock” following his arrest. “She’s in shock. And the son is just asking for his daddy. She doesn’t know what to tell him. He does not look like that person that would do something like that.” It is not the suspect’s first interaction with police in the city. Records show that in March the suspect was arrested for allegedly punching his wife twice in the face after she used his bank card to buy diapers without asking, reported WFAA. Robinson’s daughter, Janetria Oliver, says she is grateful that an arrest has been made in the case. “My mother did not deserve that, and I’m so glad that he’s off the streets where he won’t be able to hurt anyone else,” Ms Oliver said. “I’ve also been praying for the other families involved. Offenders are using virtual reality (VR) to groom and sexually abuse children, as well as share illegal images of abuse, according to new research from the NSPCC. A report commissioned by the children’s charity on VR and immersive technologies said the online spaces at the heart of the technology are being used by offenders to not only interact with children, but also to simulate acts of abuse. It warned that offenders are being desensitised to their own behaviour because of the anonymity such spaces provide through their use of customisable, digital avatars to represent each person present, which the report said offenders are using to hide behind. Virtual reality platforms are based around a person wearing a headset, which immerses them in a virtual world where they can see and interact with other users as well as consume content, and is seen by some as the next iteration of the internet. However, the study warned that these VR worlds invite the creation of tighter-knit offender communities, which could be used to share child sexual abuse material and lead to an escalation in harmful behaviours. It has also called on the Government to provide more guidance, funding and learning opportunities to law enforcement on how to deal with virtual reality platforms. And with the Online Safety Bill due to continue its passage through Parliament this week, the charity said the Government should review the Bill’s safety regime on a regular basis to ensure that it keeps up with emerging technologies and harms to make sure they are adequately covered under the law. Richard Collard, head of child safety policy at the NSPCC, said: “These shocking findings should be a wake-up call to us all about the harm young people are facing when engaging with immersive technology. “Technology will continue to progress, and so must we to ensure that we can understand the existing and emerging risks that young people face in these virtual spaces. “As the Online Safety Bill completes its passage through Parliament, it is vital that new and emerging technology forms a crucial part of the online safety regime. “This will only be made possible through clear collaboration between educators, parents, policymakers, and the technology industry.” Earlier this year, crime statistics data obtained from police forces in England and Wales by the NSPCC showed that virtual reality was recorded eight times in crime reports, the first time the technology has been specifically mentioned, the charity said. A Texas man admitted to fatally shooting a Texas Christian University student outside a bar, but could not give a reason as to why he committed the crime, a police affidavit revealed. Matthew Purdy Jr, 21, was located by police and arrested shortly after the tragic killing happened around 1am on Friday. Wes Smith, a junior at Texas Christian University, was shot three times while standing on a sidewalk in Fort Worth’s West 7th entertainment district, according to a police affidavit. Purdy told police that he did not know Smith and could not give a reason for the shooting. But did ask if he knew his father, who was assaulted in the area in the past, arrest documents stated. The college student had gunshot wounds to his stomach, shoulder and head, according to the affidavit that also revealed Purdy told police that he shot Smith in the head “because he wanted to make sure he was dead.” He also told police he would have fired more shots “if he hadn’t run out of ammunition.” Surveillance video reviewed by police showed the suspect as he approached Smith and appeared to speak to him before the student fell to the ground. Purdy, who was wearing a white T-shirt, dark pants, red ball cap and carrying a backpack, stood over Smith before running off, the affidavit said. A witness who later described the chaotic scene to police, said the suspect hit an unknown person in the back of the head with a gun. When Purdy was detained by police a short time later, he appeared to have “fresh blood” on his backpack, according to the affidavit. He was placed in the back of a patrol car where he dismantled a 9mm handgun that police say he had hidden, and threw pieces of it outside. At the time of the incident, Purdy was on probation for aggravated robbery. He now faces a murder charge and was booked at the Tarrant County Jail with a bond set at $500,000.
