'From failed singer to hat model': Lara Trump roasted for her 'MAGA Barbie' Halloween costume

JUPITER, FLORIDA: Lara Trump dressed up as 'MAGA Barbie' for Halloween, but critics were quick to pounce on her politically-motivated costume choice.

After receiving backlash for her cover of Tom Petty’s 1989 hit ‘I Won’t Back Down’, the daughter-in-law of the former President Donald Trump shared her Halloween outfit on Tuesday, October 31.

Rocking a bubblegum pink dress, Lara chose to accessorize her hair with a white cap with ‘MAGA’ written on top of it in the same font as the ‘Barbie’ poster.

The wife of Eric Trump shared the short clip with the caption, “Stay tuned ??? #MAGABarbie,” which gained her substantial attention on Instagram.

She posted another set of images with her family with the caption, "HAPPY HALLOWEEN from Mario, Princess Peach, MAGA Barbie, a pirate, a race car and a really irritated clown ??? (Dad, @erictrump, isn’t here because of a blood-thirsty, deranged Attorney General, Letitia James)."

Netizens, however, were skeptical about her Halloween outfit and felt her MAGA hat-centric attire was almost as cringe as her "cover version" of ‘I Won’t Back Down’.

‘I already know my song was shadow-banned’

After the song was released on September 29, the song debuted at No. 10 on that week’s Digital Song Sales chart with the sales clocking almost 3,500 copies, per Forbes.

She also repeatedly claimed that her song was “shadow banned” despite being placed at No. 31 on the iTunes chart.

Lara, who was a television producer and Fox presenter earlier, told the news network that her song purportedly got shadow-banned for being “too political”.

She also added that this was just a part of the trend of Conservatives getting “censored” on major platforms.

She also took to X (formerly Twitter) to say, “I already know my song was shadow-banned, so many people told me, on Apple Music, on Spotify, on Amazon Music. They wouldn’t put my song on the radio because it was too political.”

She also called out Apple saying, "Hey, @Apple — where is my song??? Why doesn’t my song appear when you search “I Won’t Back Down”???"

She also put up a little performance of her song during an interview with Sky News Australia where she sang “You can stand me up at the gates of hell but I won’t back down.”

Following her performance, she receive some backlash with ‘The Late Show’ host Stephen Colbert criticizing her performance, per The Independent.

He said, “Well I’ve never been to the gates of hell but now I’m pretty sure I know what they sound like.”

He also responded to her claim of the song getting “shadow banned,” saying, ″Yes, too political, her singing has been legally designated as domestic terrorism.”

Netizens troll Lara Trump for MAGA-fying Greta Gerwig's 'woke Barbie'

Lara Trump, unfortunately, could not win over the Internet through her 'Barbie' inspired costume, as the netizens made oblique comments about her 'MAGA' hat.

One of the social media users said, "She didn’t understand what a Halloween costume is."

"Well, well, well, look who isn’t boycotting woke Barbie after all," commented another, trolling Lara Trump for being inspired by Greta Gerwig's feminist Barbie.

Another fan remarked, "I guess Halloween is supposed to make us forget they spent all summer trying to cancel Barbie."

"Singing career didn't last long," commented someone else.

Another social media user exclaimed, "Oh no she don’t. First it was “I won’t back down” by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers now it’s a pink Barbie like MAGA hat? Hell no!"

"From failed singer to hat model...someone give this girl a lollipop," chimed in someone else.

However, Lara's fans gave her a big thumbs up while predicting that the Barbie-inspired 'MAGA' hats will soon become bestsellers.
