TAPON SPRINGS, FLORIDA: Police are currently investigating a shootout that has taken place on Sunday morning, August 27, involving two Pinellas County Sheriff's Office deputies. According to the deputies, the incident occurred in a parking lot at 40528 US 19 N in Tarpon Springs.
A Clearwater Police lieutenant saw a gray Dodge Challenger which was driven by the perpetrator Joey Young, shortly after 3 am. The vehicle reportedly passed him at more than 100 mph on northbound US 19 at Sunset Point Road, deputies said.
Why was Joey Young arrested?
According to Fox 13 News, the vehicle fled the scene despite the deputy's attempt to make a traffic stop. Authorities noted that shortly after the same car was spotted near US 19 and Republic Drive, traveling over 100 mph. The vehicle driven by Young was located in the parking lot of a furniture store, authorities said.
Two deputies then entered the parking lot and said the vehicle fled around the building and out of sight. Young then reportedly circled back to where the deputies were and began aggressively driving toward them. Deputies said that they opened fire to save their lives. The driver was not struck by the gunfire and neither of the deputies were injured.

According to authorities, Young is facing multiple charges, including grand theft auto, two counts of aggravated assault on law enforcement, fleeing and eluding, and reckless driving.
One of southwest Florida's most wanted suspects is arrested
Meaww previously reported that 22-year-old Jose Borrego, who is considered to be one of southwest Florida's most wanted suspects, has been successfully arrested in the state of Michigan. Authorities confirmed that Jose Borrego was taken into custody on Wednesday, August 23, in Greenbush Township, situated north of Oscoda. The arrest followed a brief foot chase that took place off McGregor Road.
Authorities have been pursuing Jose Borrego for several weeks after he evaded capture during a previous encounter with police officers. The Florida man's history as a repeat offender, entangled with criminal activities since the age of 14, made him a high-priority target for investigators.
Jose Borrego's legal troubles escalated when he failed to appear in court following his arrest on charges of "aggravated assault with a deadly weapon" and "possession of a firearm by a felon." The Florida man has previously been arrested nine times for offenses including burglary, theft, fraud, drug-related offenses, and even stealing a car shortly after turning 16.
