LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Emily Ratajkowski, in her recent TikTok video, sparked a controversy after she praised women under 30 who chose to end their marriages.
Addressing her female fans, the 32-year-old said, “So, it seems that a lot of young ladies are getting divorced before they turn 30,” she began.
Many followers believed that Ratajkowski was referring to the recent split between Joe Jonas, 34, and his wife Sophie Turner, 27.
She continued, “As someone who got married at 26 [who] has been separated for a little over a year [at] 32, I have to tell you, I don’t think there’s anything better. Being in your 20s is the trenches.”
What did Emily Ratajkowski say in her TikTok clip?
The ‘Cruise’ actress went on to say, “There is nothing better than being in your 30s, still being hot, maybe having a little bit of your own money, figuring out what you want to do with your life [and] everything, and having tried that married fantasy and realizing that it’s maybe not all it’s cracked up to be.”
“And then you’ve got your whole life still ahead of you,” Ratajkowski said, adding, "Personally I find it chic to be divorced by the age of 30,” reports People.
Several people slammed Ratajkowski with one saying, "Don’t understand. Do you want women and men to be in terrible unhappy marriages. I don’t understand how divorce is still a taboo subject. She’s talking to women who have been divorced in their 20s that share her experience. If you have a happy marriage than it doesn’t apply to you."
Another one wrote, "It’s always the rich talking nonsense." A third user commented, "she’s spitting."
"It’s weird to assume all people within an age group have the same experiences. Society is weird," a user commented.
What did people say about Emily Ratajkowski's ‘chic’ comment?
A user disagreed with Emily's views, saying "No, there are many women who found her disgusting too. Please don't lump women all around the world as being similar with modern Western women."
“Nothing ‘chic’ about the dissolution of a marriage and family AT ALL,” an X user didn't agree too," the user continued.
Emily separated from her ex-husband Bear-McClard in 2022. She said at the time, “I feel anger, sadness. I feel excitement. I feel joy. I feel levity. Every day is different. The only good thing I know is that I’m feeling all those things, which is nice because it makes me believe that I’ll be okay.”
