NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Supermodel Gigi Hadid has come under fire from the State of Israel's official Instagram account after she shared a post on the platform separating the Free Palestine movement from the militant group Hamas.
The 28-year-old model was spotted for the first time on Monday, October 16, in New York City since receiving criticism from the Israeli government, wearing a long wool coat from Chanel with an open neck and black buttons, per Daily Mail.
Gigi Hadid received criticism from the Israeli authorities
The Los Angeles native, whose famous Palestinian real estate developer father is Mohamed Hadid, uploaded a graphic to her 79.2 million Instagram followers regarding the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
The image on her Instagram Story over the weekend read: "There is nothing Jewish about the Israeli government’s treatment of Palestinians. Condemning the Israeli government is not antisemitic and supporting Palestinians is not supporting Hamas."
Israel's government responded to Gigi's remarks regarding the ongoing violence, which started on October 7 and had resulted in 4,000 deaths on both sides as of October 16, by ridiculing her views in a post on their Instagram Stories.
They noted in an infographic: "There is nothing valiant about Hamas' massacre of Israelis. Condemning Hamas for what it is (ISIS) is not anti-Palestine and supporting Israelis in their fight against barbaric terrorists is the right thing to do."
The State of Israel's account then personally attacked Gigi, commenting on her account, "Have you been sleeping the past week? Or you just fine turning a blind eye to Jewish babies being butchered in their homes? Your silence has been very clear about where you stand. We see you."
The Israeli authorities then shared a disastrous image of the bloody floor of a young girl who had been brutally murdered by Hamas militants.
The account once again mentioned Gigi and stated, "If you don't condemn this your words mean NOTHING."
Just the week before, the supermodel condemned "the terrorizing of innocent people" in the wake of the devastating attacks on Israel, which are believed to have resulted in the deaths of more than 1,400 Israelis.
Gigi said that even while she has "deep empathy and heartbreak for the Palestinian struggle and life under occupation" — the Palestinian territories have been militarily occupied by Israel since 1967 — she felt a "responsibility" to "make it clear" where she stands at the moment.
Internet trolls Israel for wasting time 'beefing' with Gigi Hadid
Following Israel's statement of condemnation addressing Gigi, Internet users couldn't control but mock the Israeli government for "beefing with a celebrity."
Internet users took to X (formerly Twitter) to troll the State of Israel for wasting their time in "harassing and intimidating Gigi Hadid."
One X user posted, "The state of Israel is committing a genocide against Palestinians but they still have time to post a story on their official IG page harassing and intimidating Gigi Hadid," sharing a screenshot of Israel's response to Gigi's statement.
Following the post, others joined and criticized Israel as well. A second X user agreed and wrote, "That IG post is so unserious They ran the narrative that Palestine was decapitating babies only for it to be THEM doing that and they’re coming for Gigi?! Make it make sense"
A third user wrote, "The fact the “state” has time to harass celebrities online says it all. they are trying to play the victim and care more about how they look like to the world than what’s going on."
"Why is an entire country beefing with a celebrity?" questioned a fourth X user.
"A country having social media beef with a celebrity is kinda pathetic," claimed afifth user.
Another user continued the rage, "That’s so hypocritical when israel is literally committing a genocide against palestinians but they still have time to post a story on their official ig page harassing and intimidating hadid… no words"
The same user noted, "So weird how concerned israel is about gigi hadid’s stance when they’re actively in a war right now…"
"A whole government account harassing a celebrity on social media. This is embarrassing," said another one.
"How your government at war but watching and posting IG stories?" quipped another one.
One user said, "They have time to argue with a supermodel! Not even a politician or an activist at least !! They really need her platform’s support."
