BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS: Dave Chapelle has earned the internet’s support despite triggering a walk-out from his Boston show after condemning Israel’s relentless attack on Gaza and saying that pro-Palestine students should not lose job offers.
The 50-year-old comedian weighed in on the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas during his recent standup gig at the TD Garden arena on Thursday, October 19, 2023, the Wall Street Journal reported.
Chapelle started by criticizing the Palestinian militant organization for their brutal October 7 attack, where they bombarded nearly 2,000 missiles on Israel, resulting in the death of 1,400 citizens.
During the attack, Hamas also unleashed dozens of ground attacks, including one where the militants opened fire at the Tribe of Nova music festival and killed at least 260 attendees.
What did Dave Chapelle say about the Israel-Palestine war?
After criticizing Hamas's attack, Chapelle went on to slam Israel over its response to the attack, which saw over 6,000 bombs dropped on Gaza in less than a week, and accused the country of killing innocent people.
At one point, he even emphasized that he did not believe job offers should be withheld from pro-Palestine students who were participating in demonstrations for a ceasefire.
Later in the show, an audience member yelled, “Shut the f**k up” at Chappelle, who then took a dig at the Israeli government for cutting off water, along with fuel and electricity that power water and sewage plants.
Chappelle’s comments earned loud cheering from some audience members, who shouted 'Free Palestine', while others reacted with 'What about Hamas?'
However, there were also some members who didn’t seem impressed by the comedian’s comments and chose to walk out of the show.
Near the end of his performance, he made an allusion to the Hamas assaults and Israel's response, declaring two wrongs don't make a right.
A spokesman for the comedian said he '"denies being in Boston last night". However, his name was printed on the bags given to audience members at the event.
After leaving the performance, an audience member criticized Chappelle on social media for his remarks, according to Daily Mail.
“The audience was cheering Chappelle on during his tirade. I was sick. We were sick. I turned to my friends and wife and said I think it is time to go,” he said, adding “We walked out and met up with many other Jews leaving the show. Never in my life have I felt so unsafe and so fearful of what I was witnessing.”
Internet reaction to Dave Chappelle’s comment on the Israel-Hamas war
Chappelle’s remarks have garnered immense social media attention, with some users supporting him for taking the right stance in the wake of the deadly Israel-Palestine war.
“Speaking truth to blind massive genocidal power. 🙏🏾 @DaveChappelle,” one user wrote. “Dave Chappelle speaks the truth!” a second one said.
“It's good to see Chappelle being on the right side of an issue. Thank you for broadcasting his message. Thankfully the world sees the Holocaust of Palestine for what it is and the oppressive throwback to 1930s Germany that Israel is doing their best to replicate” another wrote.
“And this is why he may have just become the goat comedian he isn’t scared to tell the truth,” one user praised, while another wrote, “Dave Chappelle is, in this particular instance, very correct.”
“He’s 100% right. Good for him. I mean it shouldn’t be that hard to be against the murdering of children. But I guess it is for you,” another one said.
“Guess he always does tell the truth as he sees it regardless of consequences. Even bigger fan,” one more wrote.
