POCOPSON TOWNSHIP, PENNSYLVANIA: Danelo Cavalcante, a murderer who broke out of prison, was seen in Pocopson Township's 1800 block of Lenape Road, roughly 1.5 miles from the Chester County Prison.
Cavalcante was sighted on the surveillance footage from Saturday morning, September 2. He reportedly escaped from the Chester County Prison in Pocopson Township, around 8.30 am on Thursday, August 31.
Why was Danelo Cavalcante arrested?
According to officials, Cavalcante was found guilty of first-degree murder on August 16 for fatally stabbing his ex-girlfriend, Deborah Brandao, 38 times in Schuylkill Township in 2021 in front of her two small children.
When was Danelo Cavalcante last seen?
Police believe they are closing in on Cavalcante after he was caught on residential surveillance footage on Route 52 in Pocopson at 1.43 am on Saturday.
Cavalcante was strolling through the woods before emerging from behind a little tree. He appeared to be carrying a backpack as well as another item in his right hand.
A burglary attempt was reported in the same town, which has just 5,000 residents, just two hours earlier, at 11.30 pm on Friday night, September 1.
Although a witness claimed to have seen someone who fit Cavalcante's description, authorities have not yet established is he was responsible for the burglary.
He was seen wearing pants, a white T-shirt, white sneakers and a backpack.
Chester County District Attorney Deb Ryan suggested that Cavalcante may be attempting to reach Brazil.
"We have evidence to suggest that he was captured in Virginia but the ultimate goal was to go to Mexico and then to Brazil, which is his native country," Ryan stated, as per ABC News.
Ryan stated on Saturday, September 2, that locals were being urged to stay indoors and watch for anyone who may have departed for Labor Day Weekend and their homes.
Is Danelo Cavalcante dangerous?
"We are requesting that residents in the area of Pocopson Township remain inside, lock your doors, lock your cars. He is still considered an extremely dangerous individual," Ryan said.
West Chester University, which is around six miles from the prison, canceled classes on Friday. The nearby Brandywine Museum of Art remained open on Saturday but advised visitors to avoid walking the museum's trails.
"The very last thing we want to see besides someone getting hurt, is him to get into somebody's house, getting a set of car keys, and then it's off to the races," noted US Marshal Robert Clark.
Where is Danelo Cavalcante?
According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Ryan noted that US Marshals were collaborating with local, state, and other federal law enforcement authorities to find Cavalcante.
Cavalcante is five feet tall and weighs only 120lbs, yet police have cautioned the public to stay away from the "extremely dangerous" offender and to call 911 if they have any information about his location.
