MIAMI, FLORIDA: Conor McGregor is accused of raping a woman during an NBA Finals game in a men’s VIP bathroom and the boxing star has denied the allegations. At present, a new video has emerged in which he is seen leading the sexual assault accuser into the bathroom, as his security team guards the door. Miami cops have already begun an investigation into last week’s incident. In a statement on Friday, June 16, a spokesman for Miami Police Department said, “MPD’s Special Victims Unit is investigating a report that was filed Sunday, June 11, 2023. This is an open investigation so no additional information can be released at this time.”
According to a source close to McGregor, he is willing to fully cooperate with the investigation and points out that the woman is after money and it is a false accusation. McGregor comes out from the bathroom then approaches the woman, and takes her by the hand, before the two walk towards the bathroom. The accused can be seen following him and then goes behind the door, meanwhile, his security team can be seen blocking its entrance. The MMA star’s attorney was quick to point out the discrepancy in the woman’s statement where she said McGregor forced her to the bathroom.
'This is no more than a shakedown'
''The claimant’s lawyer now has changed her story. Mr McGregor welcomes the investigation, which he firmly believes will show the claims against him are false. After not responding to the demand for money made by the claimant’s counsel, she turned to the media to apply pressure. This is no more than a shakedown,'' McGregor's attorney, Barbara R Llanes, said in a statement.
'My client believed they were leaving'
The accuser's attorney issued a new statement after the video started surfacing, “My client was under the belief they were leaving and going to the Four Seasons Hotel, as Conor had previously asked her to join him at his hotel room. She maintains that someone approached her and told her 'Conor told me to come get you. As she was walking out of the venue, she says McGregor took her by the hand into the restroom. My client believed they were leaving, but instead, Conor took her into the restroom,'' attorney Ariel Mitchell said.
UFC also released a statement amid the accusation, "The organization is aware of the recent allegations regarding Conor McGregor and will continue to gather additional details regarding the incident. UFC will allow the legal process to play out before making any additional statements," reports the Daily Mail.
