MALIBU, CALIFORNIA: The iconic pop star Ed Sheeran has taken over the music industry once again with his second album release this year, 'Autumn Variations'. The artist sat down with 'CBS Mornings' host Gayle King for one of the first interviews in the album's promotional period in a tete-a-tete.
Besides being one of the first people to get a chance to listen to Sheeran's new album, King was also able to share her own singing with the English singer-songwriter.
Ed Sheeran shares inspiration behind 'autumnal' album
Although his second release this year, Sheeran's new record was a new milestone for his very own label Gingerbread Man Records through which he independently released 'Autumn Variations'.
Sheeran got candid in the interview with King as he revealed the inspiration for his new album: his family and friends. All 14 songs on the record are said to be picked up from the life of his loved ones, especially his wife Cherry Seaborn, he said in the interview.
"I was always like 'I don't have a record like this'," Sheeran stated as he talked about the records he listened to with his wife. He explained, "Like one producer, one mood, one feel. So, that was very much wanting to go in and create a sort of autumnal feeling of 14 stories about my friends."
This album is a major departure for the singer from the usual music trends as he has released the album without a single or a music video.
"I have had 12-13 years of being a pop star," Sheeran added, "And having the pressure of it has to sell this week one, you have to have this hit single, you have to have this."
The English singer said that releasing an independent record has removed all of that pressure.
Gayle King tries her hand at singing
After the interview with Sheeran at his Malibu studio, the 'CBS Mornings' host revealed her singing ability to him. King revealed this in a recent post on Instagram.
The caption of the post read, "Something tells me this won’t be the last time Ed Sheeran and I are in the studio together …. We shall see!"
In the video, King and Sheeran seem to be watching a video of the morning host singing the popular Aretha Franklin number 'A Natural Woman'. While King laughed as she felt embarrassed over it, Sheeran kept praising her singing.
