LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: To the respite of all DC Universe fans, Warner Bros has finally released the teaser of ‘Aquaman 2’, which is titled ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,’ but everyone is not happy.
While a section of the fans hailed the teaser that perfectly encapsulates the tempo of the movie, another section is not happy with the presence of Amber Heard.
The netizens have taken to social media to voice their protest against Amber Heard and the presence of her character Mera, with some even proposing that Heard should have been replaced.
Did Warner Bros abandon 'Aquaman 2'?
Of late, there was a rumor online that Warner Bros had abandoned the Jason Momoa starrer superhero movie.
However, it looks like the studio has noticed the online commotion and decided to release a 26-second-long teaser on Monday, September 11, which naturally created some hype among the fans.
However, there are several fans who think the studio is essentially abandoning the film as no marketing hype has been created with less than 100 days left before the release, per Daily Mail.
The news outlet revealed that WB initially thought of postponing the release of ‘Dune Part Two’, ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ and ‘The Color Purple’ into 2024 because of the ongoing SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes.
While they pushed the release of ‘Dune 2’ to March 2024, ‘Aquaman 2’ and ‘The Color Purple’ retain the original release date.
This led many fans to speculate the reason for the lacklustre promotion of the sequel of the 2018 smash hit movie.
One fan questioned, “Aquaman 2 is coming out in 3 months and still no trailer. Why is no one panicking?”
To which another replied, “Because they know it’s bad, they know it’ll lose money, and they aren’t putting a marketing budget behind it at all.”
'Amber should have been replaced'
While a portion of the netizens is wondering about the supposed lack of marketing, another section is not shying away from showing their anger toward Amber Heard.
Several fans have not yet forgotten the Johnny Depp-Amber Heard scandal and it is evident from the comment section. One fan showed their displeasure directly by saying, "Im sorry but I can't support amber heard see the movie if you want."
The sentiment was resonated by another fan, who said, "Sorry, I will not be supporting any movie with Amber Heard in it."
Another fan who is very disinterested in the movie, said, "Let’s close the page on this unfortunately and move on to whatever is next."
"Thanks! I’ll be missing it on purpose…#AquaFlop I feel bad for Jason, the rest of the cast that’s not one who a dump in Johnnys bed, and the crew," said a fan poignantly.
Someone not only criticized Heard but also extended their anger at the fans, "Also all the people supporting amber heard down in the comments makes me sick."
Another fan declared, "Not a hope in hell am I watching this movie.. Amber should have been replaced…"
